The Human Side of Data
You don't need a statistics degree to understand research and data. You need basic data literacy, a healthy dose of curiosity, and someone willing to explain things without making you feel like you missed a prerequisite course.
I believe data science is at its best when it helps people ask better questions, make sense of complicated information, and understand the world around them a little more clearly. That’s the part of data science I love most: taking something complicated, figuring out what actually matters, and turning it into something a real human can understand and use.

Have a data question, research idea, or project you’d like to talk through? I’d love to hear about it.
I also offer workshops on data literacy and the basics of human subjects research for teams, community groups, and curious humans who want to feel a little more comfortable navigating research and data. Tell me a little about what you’re working on, and we’ll see where it goes!

Scientific articles can be intimidating. The good news is you do not have to understand the whole paper to get something useful from it. You don't have to be a statistician to be a thoughtful reader of research. This worksheet will guide you through how to think about each section of a research article. This includes a 3-step systematic way to understand the science. Each pass will give you more information at a digestible pace.
This PDF includes key terms from human subjects research in a simple format.
